Most microwave covers are plastic or silicone sitting an inch above boiling sauce. This one is thickened high borosilicate glass, free of BPA and lead, so nothing plastic is over the plate while the food heats. Ten inches covers plates, bowls and most containers, which means the splatter lands on the underside of the lid instead of the roof of the microwave.

The reason to accept the weight of glass: borosilicate takes heat better than ordinary glass, plastic or silicone lids, and it holds nothing from what you heated last week. No BPA, no lead. Clear glass also lets you watch the bowl rather than guessing at thirty-second intervals.
A single vent hole lets steam out instead of letting pressure build under a sealed dome. Food keeps enough moisture to stay worth eating, and the lid does not lift and rattle itself sideways partway through two minutes of reheating.
The handle is a heat-resistant silicone knob, which is the part you grab with bare fingers when the plate comes out. Glass gets hot; the knob is the exception, and it is what makes a glass lid a daily tool rather than a two-towel operation.
Over a dinner plate, a soup bowl or a storage container in the microwave, and over leftovers in the fridge afterward. The glass is dishwasher safe and non-porous, so tomato sauce and curry rinse off without leaving a tint behind. It stores flat, like a pot lid, among the other lids.
